I was excited to photograph Erin and Tyler on my recent trip back East. Erin was referred by her roommate, but the crazy thing is, I lived in LA when Erin did! We had briefly met a couple times and only after ‘meeting’ her again in person in DC did I realize I already knew her. Small world, eh?
Back to the good story.
Erin and Tyler both kept asking me ‘What should I do in the pictures?’ ‘What do I need to know?’ Question after question. I kept reassuring them that it was no big deal, that I would tell them where to stand and what to do, but that I mostly just wanted them to have fun & be themselves.
As you can see, these two were phenomenal! I love how they interact with each other.
Lots of real laughs.
Lots of smiles.
Lots of tender moments.
I couldn’t be happier with this session….I have oh so many favorites…and had a very difficult time narrowing them down….I could have kept shooting them all night….except the neighborhood locals thought we were crazy….and then it got too dark so I had to stop taking pictures….sigh…

I have been quite busy the last 4 weeks.

I was so excited when Cyndee asked me to take her family picture while they were in town from Arizona.
2 years had passed since I’d seen them last and I knew they would be fun to shoot. I can’t believe how much they’ve grown!
These kids had loads of energy, spunk, and kept me on my toes with their twirling, collecting snails, running in every direction on the playground, and making silly faces. We couldn’t have had more fun at Liberty Park!
PS Sorry there are so many pics….we did so many fun things that morning, it was super hard to narrow them down….

I am so excited for the next 2 weeks
I leave for Washington DC on this Thursday, the 12th for a wedding on Saturday, the 14th. I also have an engagement session lined up for the 13th with the possibility of also going to watch the meteor shower.
I will be heading up to NYC on Monday the 16th for a wedding on the 21st. It’s going to be amazing!
As I will have a few days in New York City, I am currently looking for people who would like to be photographed, as I’d like to get more work showcasing this amazing city. I will am available on Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, Thursday evening, or Saturday evening. The session will be free & you will be able to use the pictures on my blog for personal use. If you are interested in getting prints or a disk of images, you may purchase that as well. I really feel like this is a win-win situation (as I don’t typically give out free shoots).
Of course, anyone is welcome to schedule me for an official portrait session, prices starting at $300.

One of my favorite things about summer is lightning storms.
We were lucky enough to see one off in the distance as the sun set for us at the spiral jetty. The only thing that could have made it even cooler was if the storm had been closer to us….but I guess we were safer this way….
The great thing about traveling with another photographer is we both loved staying longer to capture to lightning strikes.
I love how the lightning happens in the blink of an eye, yet it is intricate, spidery, structured, and random.
So very beautiful.

Tara Winsor and I met up with my two sisters up at the spiral jetty. Because Tara & my our earlier explorations, my sisters made it there an hour before we did. Being it was their first time at the jetty, they didn’t quite know where to look for it 
Needless to say, they had a few adventures of their own, including losing some flip flops in mud 
Despite that, they were still a blast to hang out with. My sisters are kooky and so funny, and I’m so glad they could finally experience the spiral jetty with me!
We enjoyed an amazing orange and pink sunset that dazzled the eyes (and my camera). I love sunsets, but hate that they end…. When it was too dark, we snapped a few shots of each other with my off-camera flash. This is always fun to do, especially when there’s wind

Tara Winsor graciously let me take a detour last week on our way to the spiral jetty trip because I wanted to explore some of the other areas around this mysterious part of Utah. She is so easy-going, I had to force her to let me know when she wanted me to stop the car to take pictures. All she said was “I want to photograph a barn in the middle of a field”.
So I kept my eyes open for this very thing.
Off in the distance I spotted an old structure out in the middle of a yellow field and ecstatically screamed to Tara. We were stoked to have found such a treasure!
This old house, guarded by thousands of locusts, was beat down by weather and time: peeling paint, no windows, a disintegrating roof, and a curious smell. I wonder who lived here and why they had to leave their home.
They even left behind their old Chevy truck, which was upside down, rusted out, and buried by time.

Last week I went on my annual spiral jetty trip. Tara Winsor and I did a little bit of exploring on our journey towards the jetty, taking a little detour, all in the name of adventure!
I loved the slow moving river that reflected the magnificent blue sky and was laden with gold. I wish I’d done a series of shots to stitch a panorama together. It was breathtaking.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph the Young family.
These guys are actually my cousins! I haven’t seen most of them in YEARS so it was so great to see all of them & their families, as they have now grown exponentially with all their children
This crew had a week-long family reunion up Little Cottonwood Canyon, at Snowbird Ski Resort so I was lucky enough to take the scenic drive up the canyon to meet them on a beautiful summer evening. What a fun, amazing family (and I’m not just saying that because they’re my cousins )

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph the Wood Family. They were celebrating 40 years of marriage and retirement. What a joyous occasion!
The little ones were troopers as it was quite a hot day and it was right before dinnertime, so a few of them were not too happy to be in the pictures. Despite a few tears during group shots, we got some great candids of each child. Don’t they all have incredible eyes?
