New Music: Bon Iver

I recently came upon the song Blindsided by Bon Iver.

The more I listen to it, the more I want to play it.
I love the simple guitar melody, almost haunting in its beauty.
It has a melancholy to it that is palpable and intense, quickly immersing me into a state of deep thought & contemplation.
This is the song I share with you on this Sunday night.

New Music – Sia

It has been way to long since I’ve posted new music on my blog. I want to do better and keep up on that because one of my favorite things to do is share music that inspires me in one way or another. And that goes both ways. PLEASE introduce me to artists and songs that you love, too!

If you haven’t heard Soon We’ll Be Found or listened to anything else by Sia, you need to! I wanted to post this last week, but the video doesn’t embed and I was going to try to find another way to show the video…but didn’t. So, click on THIS LINK and watch it on YouTube :)

New Music – Week 7

Yesterday I was introduced to Thao. She was in town and played at Kilby Court, an awesome local venue. Thao is an incredible performer — you feel the rhythms just by watching her — and her music is brilliant. I became an instant fan. Some of my favorites are Feet Asleep, Chivalry, Bag of Hammers, and Tallymarks.

I couldn’t get it embedded in my blog, so you’ll have to click on the link (sorry!)
Feet Asleep – Thao Nguyen

Also, you should check out Tune Yards. Merrill is a singer/songwriter who plays a miniature guitar (I don’t know the correct name for it) and uses a loop. At first I was a little skeptical, but I love her rhythms and vocal talents. She has some great African influences and even sings in Swahili. Listen to her song named Fiya, followed by Hatari (my 2 faves).

New Music – Week 6

As I was listening to one of my random Playlist Mixes, the song Life is Wonderful came on by Jason Mraz. This is one of my old favorites of his….

It’s a reminder to appreciate the small things in life and to realize that life really is wonderful! It’s also a great song to sing along with :)

One of the best lines from the song is:
It takes some silence to make sound
It takes a loss before you found it
And it takes a road to go nowhere
It takes a toll to make you care

I don’t care much for the music video, but couldn’t find the entire song online….

New Music – Week 5

This week is a tribute to Iron and Wine who has amazing, mellow, beautiful melodies and lyrics. Although I enjoy many of their songs, my all time favorite is The Trapeze Swinger. It’s 9 minutes long and every time it ends, I want to play it again.

Please, remember me
Happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin
The time when
We counted every black car passing
Your house beneath the hill
And up until
Someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range,
A piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention

Aren’t the lyrics sweet?

New Music – Week 4

The music for this week isn’t new to me, but I wanted to share it.

Imogen Heap is incredible and this song is one that REALLY got me into her. I found it on You Tube a while back and was MESMERIZED by her musical skills. This song pretty much speaks for itself and I could listen to it any time, any day.

Hope you like!

New Music – Week 4

I owe this week’s music to my friend Mendy who introduced me to Ferras on Saturday night. I don’t listen to the radio much, but she told me their song Hollywood’s Not America has been playing a lot recently. Right when I got home that night, I downloaded the album from iTunes. It’s incredible! What a glorious mix of moving piano ballads, catchy choruses, and songs that are reminiscent of Keane and other awesome artists.

The song I want to highlight is called Rush. The intense, beautiful piano melody and the passionate lyrics are captivating and I love listening to it loud :)

New Music – Week 3

I love how iTunes recommends songs to me. That’s how I find about half of my music. This is Jon Foreman (former singer in Switchfoot). He has a bunch of EP albums, one for each season, that are pretty incredible. Here is one song from ‘Winter’ that struck me.

I found Amy MacDonald while listening to my Last.fm music player. There’s something about her voice that instantly called my attention and got me singing along.

New Music – Week 2

Ok, I discovered an amazing tool for listening to music this week! It’s called last.fm. I’m sure most of you have already heard about it, but it has seriously changed my life. Well, that was maybe a little dramatic, but it really is incredible.

This is how it works: you type in an artist you like, and it plays songs by similar artists. You can mark songs and artists as favorites, or ban them so you can refine the searches. It is really ingenious.

I came across Newton Faulkner and fell in love with a bunch of his songs. I find myself singing to his beautiful melodies and moving my body in time with the catchy rhythms.

New Music – Week 1

If any of you know me at all, you know I LOVE to find new music. It is a passion, almost obsession of mine. Music speaks to my soul. I love a song that makes me feel an emotion: happiness, love, sorrow, pain, confusion, joy, or makes me want to sing or dance. It’s amazing how music can reaffirm and even accentuate the emotions I am feeling.

I have decided that it is time that I share my new music with all of you. I am constantly on the lookout for new artists and new songs, so I will pick a favorite ‘Song of the Week’. (For this first post, there are 2 songs instead of just 1)

I was actually just searching for something awesome to start out with, and I came across Lose You by Pete Yorn. I couldn’t find a way to embed the song, so here is the music video. Beautiful song.

And, I found this song, Much Farther to Go, by Rosie Thomas as well. I instantly fell in love with the guitar in this song.
