For the second year in a row, my family has rented a condo up in Eden, UT for Memorial Day Weekend.
It is breathtaking up there.
Maybe it’s because we go in the Spring that I love it so much. There are wild dandelions and flowers galore, blanketing the fields and front lawns with bright yellow. Life moves slower up there & it’s nice to have those moments where we can enjoy each other, enjoy the beauty of this earth, and just breathe.

These dandelions were fun to shoot with my macro lens: especially when the little spider decided to join in.

Although their attention spans are small, it was fun to ‘explore’ and go on an ‘adventure’ with my nephews.

Ok, I know I’m a week late on this one….
James (the younger nephew) has been feeling sick lately. He wouldn’t sleep through the night. One minute he’d be fine, and the next one he was doubled over on the floor crying. James hardly ate, even if candy or sweets were offered. He was only fine when he was held and cuddled, especially when his grandma (my mom) rubbed his tummy.
When he came to my Studio Opening this weekend he still wasn’t back to his usual self, but he was doing better. In fact, he was excited to eat one of the cookies I had out for my guests. I had some special M&Ms I bought down at the M&M Store in Vegas that were in my colors. I got James’ attention, pointed to the M&Ms and he immediately jumped out of his daddy’s lap. I thought he’d race to the bowl straight away. But first, he ran over to where the cookies were, reached up, and carefully placed his cookie back (don’t worry, we took it off the plate) and then he ran over to the candy bowl. It was so cute!
Will (the older nephew) is simply darling and is the sweetest boy I know. He has been such a good brother when James would cry non-stop last week. I truly admire his love and patience. He was so excited when he came to my studio on Saturday because he had his own pack of bubble gum. I shared in his enthusiasm and then forgot about it. At one point, he left with his dad to go check out some of the other art and when he came back, he had in his hand a piece of Bubblicious gum he grabbed from the car. He began unwrapping it for me. It melted my heart!

Turns out that James crying at some point during egg decorating is becoming a tradition.

This is James trying out the easter egg dye, which was made with vinegar. He thought it was funny how we were laughing at him, so even though it tasted gross, he loved it!

Last Friday, I had my nephews come over to build a snowman with me. James was so excited — after he had his snow clothes on, he tried running around, but kept tripping and running into things (picture the younger brother on A Christmas Story, but not as bad).
Will and James were so stinkin’ cute! They kept throwing snowballs at me while I was rolling our snowman together. And they were eating snow like it was candy. We made snow angels and caught snowflakes on our tongues. Playing in the snow is the best!

Ok. I know it has been FOREVER since I have posted…so thanks for checking back because I’ve got lots of great stuff to post!
I’ll start by posting some pics from Christmas. I had a wonderful Christmas this year. Spending time with the fam (especially my nephews) is always fun. We got together on Christmas Eve to eat dinner and watch those cheesy Christmas movies that really get you into the spirit. As we were hanging out, Will wanted to take some pictures. He’s quite the photographer! I think he took quite a few pictures with everyone’s camera. Will and James even put some food outside for the reindeer, which of course got eaten
On Christmas morning, we slept in and then had a yummy waffle breakfast before opening presents. I was amazed at all the presents we had for one another and it has really made me feel blessed. It was nice to enjoy the day before a busy busy week started the next day.

Will took this one of me with my camera. Nice, huh?

My dad got the exact same shirt in long sleeves that he was wearing on Christmas. We thought it was funny.

This week was another family reunion…this time up Big Cottonwood Canyon. On Thursday morning after a relaxing breakfast, I went for a walk with my nephew and sister. It is so beautiful up in the mountains. I can’t believe how easy it is for me to forget the beautiful world when I am stuck in my office or stuck in the city. Oh how I love these opportunities to get out and experience nature!

The 24th of July is a big holiday in Utah. It commemorates the day when the first group of pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley with Brigham Young. There are always big parades, fireworks, and BBQs. My family had a BBQ with some of our neighbors. I only took my camera out for a few minutes because my nephew, James, was too cute. He couldn’t get enough of the red, delicious, juicy watermelon!

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I’ve posted! The reason is that I went camping with my family for Memorial Day Weekend. We were gone from Thursday until Monday, so I lost 5 days of posting. Good news is that I had a lot of shooting down in beautiful Southern Utah. Hopefully you guys won’t mind this HUGE post with TONS of pictures.
POSY LAKE
We stayed at Posy Lake, which is about 16 miles from Escalante, UT. It was a small little lake with a dock, all surrounded with aspen and pine trees. On Friday afternoon, I went for a walk with my mom, sister Sandy, and her two boys and we ended up going on a Lookout Hike with a fantastic view. My brother Skip went with me the next morning on a Sunrise hike. Man, that was amazing. It was so beautiful.

HELL’S BACKBONE + BOULDER, UT
On Saturday, we went on a drive through Hell’s Backbone, a small road that runs between two canyons. It was spectacular. These photos do not do it justice – the immensity and grandeur of these desert mountains was amazing. Next, we drove through the town of Boulder, which is an old, small town with some cool houses and barns. On the way back to camp, I snapped some more pics of the Utah landscape.

DEVIL’S GARDEN + HOLE-IN-THE-ROCK
For Sunday, we decided to drive to Hole-in-the-Rock. Just outside of Escalante, there is a 55 mile dirt road that takes you through beautiful open land with a magnificent row of mountains in the distance on both sides. On the way there, we stopped by Devil’s Garden, which is about 12 miles in. It’s made of up these amazing rock formations that are a brilliant deep orange against the rich blue sky. I wish we had been able to spend more time there, but we still had a long journey ahead of us. When we finally reached Hole-in-the-Rock, it looks and feels like you’re out in the middle of nowhere. A short walk will take you to the famous hole the pioneers took their wagons down years ago, which is now right next to Lake Powell. The water looked so gorgeous and made me want to go swimming. On the drive home, we encountered some cows being herded down the road. It definitely made things more interesting… Hope you like these pictures.

the FAM
Here are some pics of my family, mostly my nephews. James got so dirty right from the start. He’s only been walking for about a month, so he’s still a little wobbly. He loved finding rocks and throwing them, sometimes eating them, and he especially loved playing in the fire pit. Will was always willing to help out. He said this was the ‘best camping trip ever!’
I had so much fun spending time with my fam. Everyone was there except for my sister Stephanie’s husband Tim, and we missed him. I have such a wonderful family. I love you guys!

Today was a warm, beautiful, sunny day — perfect for Kristen and Lane’s wedding. With their friends and family gathered for this special occassion, you could see the joy emanating from these two. They love each other so much! As I said before when I did their engagement pictures, they are perfect for each other and they compliment one another so well. Plus, they both have such great sense of humors, so they are a delight to be with. Thanks for sharing this day with me!
I had such a great time with them, I ran home to show you guys all my favorite images. Also, check out their SLIDESHOW HERE.

Meet Sam. He is the dog of one of my best friends. Sam has been known as a rambunctious and playful member of our neighborhood for the last 11 years. You will always see him wearing a bandana around his neck, giving him a fashionable and friendly demeanor.
I found out on Sunday that Sam will not be with us for much longer. He has lung cancer and has difficulty breathing. Today we took these pictures for Sam’s family to have when he is gone. They love him so much! Even though some may say ‘he is just a dog’, to them he is just another member of their family.

On Saturday, some of my cousins (and 3 of my siblings) met up for lunch and catching up. We come from a HUGE family and usually only see each other at family events. There are quite a few of us from the ages of 18-30, so we’ve been trying to make a better effort to get together. Here are a few pics I took while we were chatting.
Today, I am trying something new. I have uploaded bigger photos. This should be something you will see from now on. How do you like them big?
