New Years Resolutions

I have decided that 2010 is going to be a great year regardless of what crosses my path. I will be a doer and I will not let discouragement, disappointment, or what I think is a disaster to take over my life. From this moment on, I will not stand back while my life passes me by.

I have divided my list up into 2 categories.

The first is a list of things I can cross off. I am a list maker and therefore, RELISH in crossing off items on my ‘to do’ lists. Whether it’s a one-time adventure, a monthly task, or a daily habit, these are projects that have a beginning and an end. I can feel a sense of accomplishment when they are complete.

The second is a list of things I want to improve of myself. They say we are always our hardest critic, but that means I know what I can REFINE to become the person I want to be. Not judging myself too harshly will be a challenge, but being honest with myself to reach my true potential will be required.

RELISH
Buy a d700 and new lens (perhaps the 24-70 f/2.8)
Run a 10k
Write 5 songs on the guitar
Go see the Northern Lights in Alaska OR spend time in Maine
Fly somewhere overseas
Go on a road trip
Organize and shoot one thing a month that is JUST FOR ME
Take time to follow other photographers’ blogs
Always be reading one self-help book (to help me on the business side of things) and one fiction book
Redesign my blog & update my website
Do 1 thing from LotusJump a day (5 days a week)
Update the pictures hanging in my studio
Read from The Greatest Gift in the World every day
Read from my Scriptures daily

REFINE
Be confident in myself
Don’t care as much about what people think
Have no expectations of others
Be awesome
Have a plan & follow a schedule, but be open to detours and scenic routes
Don’t be afraid to say what I want and get what I want
Laugh
Forgive AND more importantly, forget
Be aware of others and their needs instead of focusing on myself
Always look on the bright side.

I am going to print these out and have them in places where I can see them every day. Hopefully this will keep my goals always in my mind and keep me motivated throughout the year.

Wow, those are some really great resolutions! I like the way you think. Good luck with both of your lists! (I’m just starting training for a 10k in February, you should check it out!)

My favorite: “Be awesome”

It looks like you’ll get a few of these out of the way if you go with Scott Jarvie to Paris, too.

Dream big and play hard!

Thanks for posting a great blog. I’m feeling inspired to make my own new year resolutions and blog about it after reading yours!

I bought the 24-70 f/2.8 a month ago, it’s great :)

I agree with Garrett, “Be Awesome” is by far the best thing on this list. :o)

Happy 2010! I hope it is fabulous!

You should change it to “Keep being awesome…”
