West High School Class of ‘99 – 10 year reunion

This summer was my 10 year high school reunion. Does that date me too much? We had two activities: a day activity at the park for those with kids and an evening event at the Salt Lake Hardware Building. Despite my initial worries about the whole ordeal, it was actually quite an enjoyable day. Reconnecting with old friends, seeing who changed and who didn’t, and even making new friends. It was comforting to spend time with those who shared in at least a few years (if not more) of my life.

Camilla and Mark: at the City and County Building

Before Camilla and Mark’s reception was underway, we took a few moments to photograph them in front of the Salt Lake City and County Building. Seriously a gorgeous location. The weather, light, and couple made for a killer combination! (I also added a few of the group shots at the end because I thought they were fun).

Camilla and Mark: Luncheon, Reception, Details, Dancing

Camilla and Mark had their luncheon and reception at the Salt Lake City and County Building. I have always loved this building with its beautiful, Classic architecture. This was the first time I have had the opportunity to shoot inside. All the details, down to the tile on the floor are exquisite. It fit in perfectly with their style and decorations. Plus, their appetizers were colorful AND delicious.

Camilla and Mark: at the Temple

I simply relish in the (usually short) time I have with couples after they are married. They are glowing, brimming with joy, and ecstatic of the beginning of this new phase of their lives. Camilla and Mark were no exception. It was almost impossible to get them to stop smiling! Laughing, hugging, kissing, being close to each other…so natural and perfect. Plus, the Bountiful Temple is such a gorgeous building. It’s a great backdrop for such a beautiful couple :)

Camilla and Mark: with Family and Loved Ones

Camilla and Mark were married on a perfect, not-too-hot August Saturday at the Bountiful Temple.

I was always excited for their wedding because 1) they are a very good looking couple 2) they are both so nice and genuine 3) I knew Camilla’s sisters from church so we became quick friends. Little did I know that I knew Mark’s sisters, too! While waiting at the temple, I ran into his sisters and they said ‘We’re so glad you’re taking Mark’s pictures!’

Huh? I had to do a double take. Ohmigosh! You have the same last name. You’re related! Mark never told me! I’ve known two of his sisters for over five years. I was surrounded by great friends on both sides. What a wonderful, unexpected surprise.

I also have to thank Nate for coming and shooting with me at the temple. He was fun to have along and he’s an excellent photographer.

Okkervil River and Iron & Wine at the Gallivan

Last Thursday night was a memorable one in downtown Salt Lake City. It seemed as if everyone came to the free Concert in the Park at the Gallivan Center. Despite it being 100 degrees in the city & crammed with thousands of people, it was an incredible evening. Okkervil River opened up the show with sweet tunes and an uncanny ability to get the crowd involved. Seriously amazing.

Iron & Wine came on the stage, that is Sam Beam came on the stage, and put on an acoustic, one-man show. He played many of my favorites including Trapeze Swinger, Boy with a Coin, Flightless Bird, American Mouth, Such Great Heights, and many others. My biggest complaint about the night was that sometimes the crowd was more into socializing than listening to the music. I seriously would’ve paid money to hear these guys play and actually be able to enjoy the show without straining my ears.

Here are some pics from the night. I actually wasn’t going to bring my camera, but got convinced by a twitter friend.

Enjoy!

Maria and Mark

You may have already noticed how stylin’ this couple is. They are actually decked out in all J Crew attire! I love the simple, wistful, gorgeous dress that Maria chose to wear. All the details, including her necklace and bejeweled sandals are from J Crew. Mark wore a very handsome ensemble, making the perfect companion for his beautiful bride. What a dapper couple!

I also need to mention that these two are the kindest couple: to each other an everyone around them. Mark let Maria know how amazing she looked at every chance he could find. And Maria never let an opportunity pass where she could do the same for Mark. What a perfect team. Being around them made me happy.

Maria and Mark: Miscellaneous

From greeting close family & friends, adorable ring bearer & flower girls, to a gorgeous cake for the bride and a ‘manly’ cake for the groom, to a lovely musical program, dancing, and sparklers to finish it off. Here’s a taste for the details that made Maria and Mark’s day special :)

Maria and Mark: the Ceremony

Maria and Mark’s ceremony was full of smiles, laughter, tears (of joy), and love. Listening to Mark and Maria read each other their vows was a touching and memorable experience. I always feel honored that I get to witness such great love, devotion & happiness.
