My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend: an Avenues Apartment 1

For the past few weeks, I have been shooting film stills for the film My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, written and directed by Daryn Tufts. Alyssa Milano, Chris Gorham, and Michael Landes star along with Beau Bridges, Carol Kane, and Tom Lenk.

I am totally behind in sharing these great photos with you (and I have to remind you that I unfortunately can’t share any images of the actors). Despite the fact that you can’t see great images of Alyssa, Chris and Tom from this day, you can at least see how awesome this crew is! Seriously, these guys work incredibly hard to make every scene and detail of the movie beautiful.

My Anthropologie Birthday Card

The other day, I got a small envelope in the mail. Upon opening it, my eyes couldn’t believe what I saw.

A linen envelope adorned with 5 bright buttons and a small card from Anthropologie, giving me 15% off a purchase during the month of July. I want to use it just because of how stinkin’ cute it is and because it was refreshing to receive this cute, spunky card. I love how they took a little extra time (and, let’s be honest, money) to make me seem important to them.

Thanks, Anthropologie!

Question is: how can I incorporate this idea into my business?

Some Ages Still Available for Celebrating Life!

I am seriously amazed and excited for the awesome response I’ve received for the Celebrating Life project. I mean, in less than 24 hours, I filled 21 spots and have 15 on a waiting list. There have been a couple really popular ages. But, no need to fret. There are still some openings and there’s always a chance you could get bumped from the waiting list to the #1 slot. So don’t give up hope yet. And please help spread the word!

At this moment, all the spots have been filled. Thank you everyone!

Celebrating Life: July

I am turning 28 in a couple of weeks.

I have been wanting to do something similar to Justin Hackworth’s 30 Strangers project, where he photographed a stranger every day for 30 days in April. Without wanting to copy him explicitly and also wanting to add my own twist to it, I have figured a way to Celebrate Life this July.

For the month of July, I will photograph 28 people (get it? I’m turning 28!), one person from each age — from the tender age of 1 to the lively age of 28. I will capture each year of life and relish in all the ups & downs, delight in the knowledge & growth, and remind myself that every year of life is precious.

As my gift to you, I would like to offer a free session to the first person (for each age) who sends an email to portraits@threewinksstudio.com and includes their AGE in the subject and their name, contact info, and a little blurb about themselves. I will not be photographing every day, but I will shoot in consecutive order so I can post a portrait each day on my blog. Each session will come with an 8×10 fine art print.

After much deliberation, I have decided to shoot these in my studio to make the process simpler (logistically). There will be a variety of chairs for you to sit in that will, hopefully, reflect your style, mood, and persona. Each session will be approximately 15 minutes.

Here is the clincher.

Instead of paying the regular session fee, I ask that you donate $25 to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Cancer affects 33% of Americans, which means we’ve ALL been affected by it in some way. Doctors have definitely come a long way in regards to understanding, treatments, and prevention, but there is infinitely more to learn. Help out a worthwhile cause by giving a small amount of $25.

Here is a run down of the TENTATIVE shooting schedule. Please take these dates and times into consideration, but also realize that they are subject to change. There will be a waiting list for each age so if someone can’t come on their designated day, their spot will automatically go to the next person in line. Again, it is first come, first serve :)

Monday, June 29th: 10am — Ages 1, 2, 3 & 4
Thursday, July 2nd: 10am — Ages 5, 6 & 7
Monday, July 6th: 10am — Ages 8, 9 & 10
Wednesday, July 8th: 7pm — Ages 11, 12, 13 & 14
Monday, July 13th: 6pm — Ages 15, 16 & 17
Wednesday, July 15th: 6pm — Ages 18, 19 & 20
Monday, July 20th: 8am — Ages 21, 22, 23 & 24
Wednesday, July 22nd: 7pm — Ages 25, 26, 27 & 28

Like I said, this schedule is tentative. The address to my studio is 118 W Crystal Ave (2590 S). Please email your Age in the Subject of the email and include your name, contact info, and a little blurb about yourself (or your child) in the body of the email. I want to get a variety of boys AND girls, so anyone is eligible!

Do I need to reiterate that this is a FREE session by Three Winks Studio?

I can’t wait for the month of July! Please help spread the word, especially since it’s coming fast.

Annie and Joe: Engagements

I had such a fun time shooting Annie and Joe’s engagement pictures. We found some beautiful architecture in downtown Salt Lake and then we barely made it out to the lake in time to be eaten alive by mosquitoes. Or, what I mean to say is, we barely made it to the lake in time before the sun set :-p

These two were up for anything! I loved the light coming through the window at our first location. The warm light from the window also cast little rainbows on their faces, which added a fun element to the images. Besides being watched by a couple policemen, being told not to walk on the grass, sinking into wet sand at the Great Salt Lake, and getting bitten by bugs, it was an uneventful, perfect evening. It was also awesome because Ashley came to assist me (which came in handy out at the lake). Thanks for being in charge of my off-camera flash, Ash!

I can’t wait for Annie and Joe’s bridal session coming up next month and for their wedding in August!

the Laub Family

I can’t tell you how excited I was to meet Ashley, Chris, and Devin.

Chris, being the good husband that he is, gave Ashley a photo session for their anniversary in May. They wanted a mixture of urban and greenery so we ventured out into downtown Salt Lake, which has all sorts of sweet locations within a couple blocks. I loved photographing these three. They are fantastic!

Devin has got to be one of the BEST little kids I have ever photographed. He was smiling and laughing the whole time — well, maybe he got a little tired at the end…

Thanks guys for an awesome session!

My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend: Struck

For the past week, I have been shooting film stills for the film My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, written and directed by Daryn Tufts. Alyssa Milano, Chris Gorham, and Michael Landes star along with Beau Bridges, Carol Kane, and Tom Lenk.

The 3rd and 4th days were shot at Struck, a design firm in downtown Salt Lake City.

See post from above the Capitol, and the Tavernacle.

day 2 @ Struck

My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend: the Tavernacle

For the past week, I have been shooting film stills for the film My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, written and directed by Daryn Tufts. Alyssa Milano, Chris Gorham, and Michael Landes star along with Beau Bridges, Carol Kane, and Tom Lenk. The second day I shot, it was at the Tavernacle: a piano bar in Salt Lake City.

My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend: Capitol Hill

For the past week, I have been shooting film stills for the film My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, written and directed by Daryn Tufts. Alyssa Milano, Chris Gorham, and Michael Landes star along with Beau Bridges, Carol Kane, and Tom Lenk.

It really is fantastic to see a film crew in action. Each scene is carefully rehearsed, directed, lit, and filmed — many times from different angles. There is innumerable amounts of behind-the-scenes action that goes on. It really is mind-blowing at how efficient the process is.

Unfortunately, I can only share images of the crew and the extras, not any of the actors :( But, hopefully you’ll enjoy them anyway!

Adria Grace: 3 weeks

This little bundle of joy has the most adorable head of dark hair. She gets that from her mommy. On the other hand, she resembles her daddy quite a bit. You may recognize Kristen and Lane from their engagement & wedding pics I did a couple years ago.

Although Adria wanted to stay nestled on her mommy’s chest, we were able to catch of few of her fun expressions and movements — she loves to wiggle & squirm :) By the end, Adria was tuckered out and fell asleep in her mommy’s arms.

Precious.
