I was very excited when Meredith asked me to be her wedding photographer. I met her through Breanne, so a big thanks to Breanne for referring me!
Meredith was ‘officially’ proposed to the night before our Engagement Session. I knew she was hoping she’d have her ring for the pictures…and Jeffrey didn’t let her down. You can tell that these two are very much in love! I could hardly get any straight-faced shots, ’cause they were ALWAYS laughing and joking around with each other.
We took a few shots with Aaliyah, who is a hoot and a half. She’s going to be just as tall as her mother…and full of spunk, no doubt
If you had seen me on this shoot, you would’ve laughed…since these two are TALL, I came prepared. I carried a step ladder with me, lol. Thanks for a great session!

Friday night, I had an incredible engagement session with Meagan and David. They are seriously awesome because they drove all the way up to Salt Lake from St. George! The first thing Meagan said before our shoot was: “I don’t photograph well.” Meagan, I hate to say this, but you are wrong
Meagan looked like she walked right out of a magazine ad with her saucy outfits, stylish shoes, and electric blue eyes. Plus, these two were completely natural in front of the camera. I’m so excited for their wedding in September!

We made sure to stay for the sunset, even though the temperature drops down to 40 degrees.

The drive up to Haleakala National Park is incredible. It’s 10,000 feet to the top, which means lots of sharp turns and a quick elevation change. It was a sight to see as we were inside the clouds and then above them! Up at the summit, the clouds and weather was continually moving and reshaping. I could take a picture and 10 seconds later, it would be a completely different scene.
They have this plant that ONLY grows at the top of this crater called Silversword. One plant can last up to 50 years and it can adjust its temperature to account for the extreme weather.
We did a small portion of a hike down to the Haleakala Crater. The terrain was breathtaking as the clouds moved in and out, casting shadows and shining light. I was in constant awe and wonder of the beauty surrounding me.

After driving through Kula, there’s a small, easy-to-miss turnoff to the Lavender Fields. This was definitely a highlight of the trip. The soft, soothing smell of lavender fills the air as you meander around these lush hills. You could seriously spend hours there and feel like it was 5 minutes.
There were pathways and gardens of other tropical flowers and plants that was candy to the eyes. The fields were peaceful and I would’ve slept in rows of lavender if we’d had the time….

Yesterday I was introduced to Thao. She was in town and played at Kilby Court, an awesome local venue. Thao is an incredible performer — you feel the rhythms just by watching her — and her music is brilliant. I became an instant fan. Some of my favorites are Feet Asleep, Chivalry, Bag of Hammers, and Tallymarks.
I couldn’t get it embedded in my blog, so you’ll have to click on the link (sorry!)
Feet Asleep – Thao Nguyen
Also, you should check out Tune Yards. Merrill is a singer/songwriter who plays a miniature guitar (I don’t know the correct name for it) and uses a loop. At first I was a little skeptical, but I love her rhythms and vocal talents. She has some great African influences and even sings in Swahili. Listen to her song named Fiya, followed by Hatari (my 2 faves).

I love it when my nephews come play in my room with me. We turn on fun music, sing and dance. (And, I usually share a treat or two with them

The whole family was ready to go swimming at our local pool the other night, when we found there was a swim meet going on. My nephews were heartbroken…. so we decided to play in hose. It’s the second best thing!
When I was little, we’d beg my mom to run in the sprinklers. I remember distinctly that she would only let us if it was 60 degrees outside (this was usually in the Springtime when we had Summer Fever). I’d call the time & temperature over and over until it reached 60. I was nuts! Brrrr….
Now I can live like a kid vicariously through my nephews

I love children between the ages of 1 1/2 and 3. They love their mobility. They only laugh when something is funny. And their parents will do ANYTHING to get them to smile and sit still for a picture
What a cute family! Emily has perfect porcelain skin, blond curls, and bright eyes. She loves to dance and run around — and she always makes sure that everyone is included in the fun. Even though our time was short together, I loved every second. Thanks for being so great!

On Sunday, we took a drive through Kula as we headed towards the Haleakala National Park. The scenery was so beautiful, I HAD to hold my camera out the window, shooting like a madwoman. Thanks goodness for fast shutter speeds and auto focus
We stopped by a small fruit and vegetable farm that overlooked the Western shoreline. I had a fascination with the sunflowers…
